Kathmandu, Born in Balewa, Baglung, journalist Kiran Paudel has swiftly emerged as one of Nepal’s most influential young reporters. Known for his fearless and analytical coverage of judicial, constitutional, and bureaucratic affairs, Paudel has become a leading voice shaping the nation’s evolving media landscape.
Born on June 17, 2002, Paudel grew up in Baglung before moving to Kathmandu for higher education. His father serves as a Police Officer, while his mother works as a banker. He completed his SEE in 2017, pursued Science at the higher secondary level, and later earned a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Applications (BCA) from Tribhuvan University.
Paudel began his professional journey with the Annapurna Media Network, where he spent nearly three years covering political, diplomatic, and judicial affairs. His investigative series, “Legal Watch”, published in The Annapurna Express, delved into systemic corruption, judicial appointments, and institutional challenges — earning him national recognition for his depth and integrity in reporting.
In November 2024, Paudel joined the Kantipur Media Group – Kantipur Television as Sub-Editor, leading coverage on Judicial Affairs, Constitutional Bodies, Foreign Affairs, Legal Reforms, and Social Justice. He was appointed the lead reporter for Nepal’s Gen Z protests, reporting from the ground and documenting the youth-led movement with precision and empathy. His coverage was cited internationally by Al Jazeera, highlighting the global relevance and clarity of his journalism.
Beyond television, Paudel regularly contributes columns to Bar & Bench, offering insightful analyses of Nepal’s legal framework and advocating for judicial reforms. His reporting on the Nepali student suicide incident at KIIT University, Odisha, India, featured in The Quint, drew international attention to the mental health challenges faced by Nepali students abroad.
Paudel’s exceptional work has earned him several accolades, including the Legal Journalism Award (2022–2025) and the Best Legal Journalist Award from the Kathmandu District Court Bar Association (September 2025) — making him the youngest journalist in Nepal to receive such honors in legal reporting. He was also the youngest delegate selected by Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to observe post-earthquake relief efforts in Myanmar in 2025.
At just 23 years old, Kiran Paudel stands at the forefront of Nepal’s next generation of journalists — a storyteller of integrity and innovation. His journey from the hills of Baglung to national and international recognition reflects not just his personal determination but also the spirit of a young nation striving for justice, accountability, and change.
